Troop 1849

Information for Prospective Scouts

To prospective Boy Scouts and their parents,

Thank you for your interest in Boy Scout Troop 1849.  If you are currently a Cub Scout looking for a troop to join, or are new to Scouts and thinking about joining a Troop, we hope that you will consider Troop 1849.  Scouting is a great program, offering a wide range of opportunities for boys ages 11-17.  Boy Scout troops vary widely in size, activities, and programs and, when looking for a troop to join, it is important to be sure you have a "good fit" - that is the troop, its leaders, its activities, and overall "feel" are a good match.  Troop 1849 is a small troop and we believe that our size allow us a good deal of flexibility in setting our activities to best meet both the immediate and long term needs of our Scouts.  We emphasize a wide range of activities and schedule at least one outdoor activity (camping, hiking, etc) each month.

We aspire to maintain a balanced program of activities throughout the year to challenge the Scouts both mentally and physically, emphasizing leadership and character development in the Scouting tradition. Our activities during the past year serve as examples of the program you can expect from Troop 1849 in years to come.  During this time, we participated in several campouts, Camporees and hike-o-rees, to include a skiing campout in Pennslyvania, a tour of the destroyer USS Bainbridge with an overnight campout on Scout Island in Norfolk, VA, and our annual freeze-o-ree near Catoctin National Park in Thurmont, Maryland.

We provide our Scouts with many opportunities for advancement and in the past few years have had a few boys earned the Eagle rank.  Because of the Troop small size, we can work closely with each Scout in developing a program individually suited toward his needs and interests.  Scouting is also about character, values and community service.  Troop 1849 emphasizes the values incorporated in the Scout Law and our Scouts regularly participate in a wide range of community support activities

We hope that Troop 1849 will be part of your Scouting experience.  Should you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit to one of our troop meetings, please contact our Scoutmaster, Sandy Rothberg.  We encourage you to look around the website for more information on our troop, to uncover helpful information about scouting in general and to view our photos of our recent activities.
