Troop 1849 Camping Checklist for Summer Camp
Packing
The best option is a pack or gear/duffel bag(s) of some type. Organize gear in big ziplock plastic bags. A Camp
Henson vehicle will transport our gear from the parking lot to the campsite in one trip, so don’t over pack!
Labeling
Please put luggage tags on packs/bags and label all clothing and equipment likely to be mislaid with the Scout's name and Troop 1849. (Especially: hats, Scout books, and canteens!)
Clothing
___Complete Scout Uniform with Scout shirt, neckerchief; slide, belt, hat, shorts or trousers and Scout socks. A complete uniform is required for the evening Retreat/dinner formations (& troop photo)
____ Sturdy hiking shoes (Closed toe, no sandals, sneakers discouraged.)
____ T-shirts & shorts for 6 days (Trp 1849 T-shirts & Scout shorts recommended)
____ Underwear & socks for 6 days
____ Raincoat or poncho
____ Light jacket/sweatshirt and long pants. (Temperatures in the 60s are possible at night.)
____ "Dirty clothes" bag
Swimming/Boating
____ Swim suit
____ Goggles, ear plugs (optional)
____ Beach towel
____ Water/boat shoes (No flip flops or "Teva" style sandals. Consider old sneakers; they will very likely be ruined!)
Sleeping
Note: We will live in two person BSA canvas wall tents with floors. CampNanticoke/Henson has canvas Army cots. Mattresses are not needed or supplied, although Scouts may desire to use their sleeping pads on the cots.

Prohibited Items for Scouts
Electronic toys, radios, tape players, "walk men", cell phones, beepers, etc. (These hurt the camp experience.)
Fireworks (of all types "legal" or illegal)
Candy, soft drinks, and other food items. (There will be ample opportunity to get this stuff for immediate consumption at the Trading Post)
Aerosol sprays (all types are prohibited including insect repellent)
Medications (except those given to an adult Scout leader)
Pets (except guide dogs)
Sheath knives (any blade length)
Axes, hatchets, saws (We will have these as troop equipment.)
Cigarette lighters (all types)
Liquid fuel or "fire ribbon" fire starter
Liquid fuel or compressed gas lanterns or stoves (We will have these as troop equipment.)
Tobacco products
Alcohol or illegal drugs
Airguns (all types)
Firearms and ammunition
Notes: 1. This list is obviously not exhaustive. Most items are on it because they are unsafe. Please use common sense. Call the Scoutmaster if in doubt or in need of a reason why an item is on the list.
2. A Scout found with any weapon or other illegal item will be referred to camp authorities and can expect to be arrested by the local police. A Scout found with any item prohibited for safety reasons may be sent home.
